Northumberland County, Virginia is one of the oldest counties in the state, and thanks to its rich history and countless activities, it’s a great place to visit, especially for those looking to relax and unwind. 

Dotted with quaint towns and villages, the county has ample charm and character, with historic downtown areas, local shops, and cozy restaurants and cafes.

The county also has a vibrant culinary scene, with family restaurants specializing in fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, contemporary menus, and local menus, including some with locally-caught seafood, as well as a growing wine and spirits industry with vineyards and breweries where visitors can enjoy the local drinks. 

They’ve also got a prominent art scene with galleries, museums (including Reedville Fisherman’s Museum) studios, and events showcasing local artists and artisans, as well as art exhibits, performances, and workshops and classes, all great for visitors, as well as family-friendly activities such as picking produce at local farms, attending seasonal festivals, participating in local celebrations, and visiting the Northern Neck Farm Museum. 

Northumberland County is a perfect place for visitors who are looking to escape from hectic everyday life, thanks to its ample number of relaxing activities and locations, like walking along the water, enjoying local food, or basking in southern hospitality of the “quiet, friendly community, with a so much to explore, at a less hectic pace,” according to Robert L Bullard, Executive Director, Economic Development Commission, Northumberland County, Virginia
